Painful Sex

Painful sex that women experience is a condition known as vaginismus. Vaginismus is where time and time again having sex has becomes more uncomfortable. The anticipation of pain during sex has a negative impact on intimate relationships.

What Women Say To Us About Painful Sex

Women often find this problem too embarrassing to talk about. They hardly ever will share their concerns, preferring to keep their fears private. They tell us that they can often feel very alone and unable to talk to anyone. Worried about others judging them, they may not even speak to their GP. Women also describe their sense of fear as they don’t understand their condition. They will also go to extraordinary lengths to avoid any sexual intercourse. Many will choose to live very solitary lives.

Women tell us they are always feeling anxious and fearful in their relationships. They are usually anxious as they don’t understand what is causing their painful sex. This fearful apprehension causes physical symptoms like vaginal tightness and sexual discomfort. Vaginismus symptoms may include burning or tearing sensations and excruciating pain.

Vaginismus sufferers often find it difficult to insert tampons or undergo gynaecological examinations.
