Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I see a Thrive Consultant®?

You can complete the Thrive Programme® without the help of a Thrive Consultant®, but many clients prefer to work through it with the support of a Thrive Consultant. You can book an appointment with a Thrive Consultant for any reason; they all offer free initial consultations, which is an opportunity to discuss your issues or symptoms. It is also an opportunity to find out more about completing the Thrive Programme® with them.

All Thrive Consultants are licensed to support you with all versions of the Thrive Programme® including ‘Fly Happy’, ‘Thrive as a Non-Smoker’, ’Cure your Emetophobia & Thrive’, and Cure your Vaginismus and Thrive.

Working through the programme with a Thrive Consultant is fun! Your Thrive Consultant will support you as you complete the programme, bring the sessions to life and tailor them to your needs ensuring you fully understand all aspects. Your Thrive Consultant can clarify issues, answer any number of questions and provide the motivation and accountability you need to get maximum benefit from the programme.

Typically our clients look forward to their appointments and it is common to leave a session with a big smile on your face, feeling ready to take on new challenges with a sense of confidence and empowerment.

Working With Me

Working with me you can complete the Thrive Programme as a course over about six to eight hours. Depending on the situation I see just one person, a parent with a child, or a couple. These are all what come under the heading of ‘one to one’ sessions.

Group sessions are with a group of parents, a group of employees when I work with businesses, and groups of teachers when I work in schools.

Courses can be arranged over 8 weeks or less. and all sessions are by appointment.

The course includes my full support with sessions, personalised online assessment, and weekly support videos.

The Thrive Programme series are based on Rob Kelly’s workbooks, and you will need to choose your copy from The Thrive Programme shop.

When you are ready to start the course, you will need a book, available at the Thrive Programme shop. Choose the book you want to use, depending on what is challenging you. We can talk about that when we speak.

How much does it cost?

Completing the course with a Thrive Consultant at their clinic or over Skype costs £895.00 – less than the cost of a week’s holiday, or a course of driving lessons! For a list of fees for groups of parents, groups of employees, and groups of teachers, please see this Fees page.

What support is available?

We’ve made it really easy for you to learn to thrive. You can work through one of the books by yourself, you can work through them with a Thrive Consultant, you can join an online support group, or even go through it at work or in a club/organisation. We have an Online TQ ( thrive quotient) Assessment which gives a real indication of the areas that you can improve.

We also have online support videos to help you learning as you study the programme. Thrive Consultants will also support you throughout the time that you work together. Their aim is for you to really understand your self and know how to feel positive and confident. There are also loads of free resources and tips on the Thrive website here.

I’m seeing a therapist. Can I go though The Thrive Programme® at the same time?

You can, but it is not advisable for a couple of reasons:

  1. There is nothing like this programme, so it’s very likely that any other intervention you are going through will conflict in some manner, lessening the positive affects.
  2. When your self-esteem starts to rise you begin to create super-confidence and you start to overcome your symptoms. At this point you need to see – very clearly – that it is your new-found thriving skills that are achieving the success. If you are doing some other treatment programme/seeing a therapist as well, how are you going to know what is having such a great effect on your life?

How is the programme unique?

The Thrive Programme® brings together scientific research and years of clinical experience in a unique and dynamic manner that is easily accessible to all. Although many other training courses and techniques do focus upon some similar concepts to The Thrive Programme®, most don’t go into the same in-depth detail of the underlying fundamentals nor integrate the knowledge in such a comprehensive manner.

It is because The Thrive Programme® clients are helped to attain a very high degree of self-awareness, that they are able to clearly see what they need to do in order to ‘get better’, and why they are then also willing to put in as much effort as is required.

Unlike some other courses The Thrive Programme® is empowering because it is easy to understandable and accessible. It is not based upon ‘magical’, disempowering beliefs. The Thrive Programme® is not therapy or a treatment programme where something is ‘done to’ a person. It is all about empowering people to make the necessary changes for themselves.

I don’t have much time. Which parts of the programme are best?

One of the greatest things about the Thrive Programme® is that you can change your life dramatically, and for good in just a matter of weeks – the average client takes less than two months. Having said that, you need to undertake the WHOLE programme – you cannot pick individual elements and expect to get the same results as someone completing the whole programme.

However, the Thrive Programme® is not a set of techniques. To get results you need to work through the whole programme from start to finish and apply persistent and continuous effort throughout.

You will learn how your thinking styles have developed and how to change them. This will involve short reflective exercises and actions that help you to implement what you have learnt so you can make simple but really effective changes in your life.

What do I need to do to complete the programme?

The programme is based on Rob Kelly’s books, available here. It’s best to embark on the programme when you have a few weeks to focus on it. It doesn’t take long but you need to be able to dedicate time, energy and commitment in order to see achieve maximum results.

Feedback from people who have completed the programme is very positive – doing the Thrive Programme® is really enjoyable, and the quicker you start, the sooner you’ll be thriving.

I have additional needs… Autistic/dyslexic/visual Impairment etc.

Your Thrive Consultant can personalise this programme to make it accessible and personal to you and there are also support videos to help. Working with a Thrive Consultant is the easiest way to ensure that the programme is accessible to you and you gain the most benefit.

Can I bring my partner/friend/mother/spouse?

Please ask your Thrive Consultant at your initial consultation. All children under sixteen must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Is the Thrive Programme® suitable for children?

We think this is the perfect time to start learning to thrive and many children have learnt using The Thrive Programme®. Teaching children how to understand their thinking and to manage their responses to life’s events is a great gift; something that will serve them throughout their lives.

The Thrive Programme® for teenagers is suitable for young people from aged approximately ten years old. By working with a Thrive Consultant it is possible for younger children to complete the programme really effectively.

Parental support is invaluable and often parents report personal benefit to helping their child work through the programme. Thrive Consultants explain things really clearly and have a knack for keeping things ‘light’, using memorable analogies, pictures and metaphors to ensure that the message really stays in your child’s mind.

If your child has a school-related problem, is anxious or lacking in confidence or suffers from bedwetting or nightmares, the Thrive Programme® has proven effectiveness in helping them to overcome these issues, but, more importantly, to learn to thrive.

The Thrive Programme® is workbook based but it can be completed by a non-reading person, or a reluctant reader. The programme includes pictures and metaphors that are memorable and make sense.

Please note that all children under the age of sixteen must have a parent/guardian present at their appointment.

What happens when I have finished the programme?

That is the question! Once you have completed the programme, the world is your oyster! We receive hundreds of emails from readers of the book who have learnt to thrive and are now taking on challenges they would never have dreamt of.

People embark on The Thrive Programme® for a number of reasons and find it a hugely effective way to overcome symptoms – consider weight-related issues, smoking, sexual problems, insomnia, hair-pulling (trichotillomania), OCD , anxiety depression , stress and eating disorders – and saying ‘farewell’ to these problems is usually just the start, with ‘thrivers’ going on to achieve more than they had previously imagined.

The Thrive Programme® has changed my life and I want to be a Thrive Consultant.

The Thrive Programme® is expanding rapidly and we have consultants in more than ten countries worldwide. If you’re interested in a rewarding career as a Thrive Consultant®, full details are available here.

How does the programme differ from hypnotherapy?

The appeal of hypnotherapy is entirely understandable. When people feel powerless about resolving their anxiety or symptom, who wouldn’t like the idea of being ‘put out to sleep’ to find that your problems are gone when you wake up!

This can indeed sometimes be the case when the client has a minor symptom or limiting belief. In this case, suggestion hypnosis may well be all that person needs to get over that blip in their life.

However, all of our symptoms, whether it’s depression, anxiety, phobias, OCD, insomnia are the direct result of our thinking! Therefore, in order to permanently overcome a symptom, the most empowering thing we can do is understand and address the thinking that caused it in the first place.

Hypnosis may well change our thinking about a certain issue, but without the substance or foundation to support the new thinking/beliefs we run the risk of quickly undoing the hypnosis suggestions by reverting to old ways of thinking.

The aim of hypnosis is to suggest away symptoms. However, symptoms are only the end result of other issues – whether it’s issues with our self esteem, social anxiety or feeling out of control. Therefore, unless these primary issues are addressed, many positive results of hypnotherapy are unlikely to be permanent.

The good news is that it really is quite simple to change the real cause of our symptoms in an empowering and permanent way – which is what The Thrive Programme® aims to do in just six sessions.

Our aim is to help empower people with a training programme that is predictable and understandable – and unfortunately results achieved from hypnotherapy are neither of these things.

How does the Thrive programme differ from counselling?

Counselling can be beneficial by allowing a client to off-load or talk through a problem. This is particularly useful if that person is unable to talk to friends or family. However, the disadvantage of counselling can be that you may find yourself going over old ground, dredging up past hurts and experiences and bringing those pains to the surface but with no resolution or change of perspective.

This is particularly the case with counselling that is focussed on discussing people’s childhoods. Very often, when people feel unhappy with themselves or their lives in the here and now, they feel powerless to change themselves, their behaviour or their circumstances… and hope that by resolving past issues will help their present days problems.

However, going back to the past is rarely the answer. You may gain more insight into why you behave as you do….although it doesn’t necessarily mean that you feel empowered enough to overcome problems or change your life now.

With Thrive, the focus is upon your thoughts TODAY. We are looking at the processes by which anxiety and symptoms are created: HOW you think about things, rather than WHAT you are thinking about. This explains why some days people may have their symptom and other days they do not – their lives may not have changed but their thinking has.

How does the programme differ from NLP or CBT?

The Thrive Programme® is entirely different to techniques such as NLP or CBT, even if on the surface they may sound similar.

Thrive doesn’t just focus upon giving a person some isolated insights, tools and techniques to cope with a symptom or problem. These approaches are ‘fire-fighting’ – trying to control or reduce the anxiety AFTER we have already created it by our thinking. Often people tire quickly of having to maintain this level of effort of fending off negative thoughts.

The Thrive Programme® is about Thriving and overcoming symptoms is just a part of that. It is about creating strong psychological foundations (eg, good self esteem) so that we are not creating anxiety. You don’t need to fire-fight if you are not setting fires in the first place!

The Thrive Programme® is a comprehensive training course, which provides people with unique self-insights that enables them to develop the beliefs, resources and motivation to build resilience and make positive changes across all areas of their lives.

It is of limited value teaching you any sort of ‘positive thinking’ or CBT or NLP techniques unless you understand the component parts of your thinking and beliefs that continue to create the anxiety. If you are not able to understand or alter the driving forces behind your symptoms or anxiety, it can feel as though you are ‘treading water’ trying to fend off negative thoughts.

Thrive is a training programme and not therapy. It is not about someone else doing something for you or to you but about YOU taking control of your life. It is so much more empowering to take control of your own problems, rather than someone else resolving them for you.
